Cricket Wagga Wagga has announced the election of the Hon Michael McCormack MP and Dr Joe McGirr MP as Patrons of the Association, recognising their ongoing advocacy and support for cricket and community sport across the region.

The appointment acknowledges the significant contribution both men have made to the growth and development of local cricket through their respective public roles and their longstanding connection to the Riverina community.

While McCormack is a familiar face within local cricket circles through his involvement with St Michael's Cricket Club, Cricket Wagga Wagga said his election as Patron reflects the substantial support he has provided to the game as the Federal Member for Riverina, helping champion investment in sporting facilities and opportunities for regional communities.

Similarly, Dr McGirr's election recognises the important role he has played as the Member for Wagga Wagga, advocating for community sport and supporting initiatives that strengthen participation and infrastructure across the region.

Cricket Wagga Wagga Chair George Burley said the election of the two Patrons highlights the Association's appreciation for individuals whose influence extends beyond the boundary rope.

"Patrons play an important role in helping promote and support cricket throughout our region, and both Michael and Dr Joe have consistently demonstrated their commitment to community sport and the people who make it possible," Mr Burley said.
"Their willingness to engage with local sporting organisations, advocate for improved facilities and support grassroots participation has benefited cricket clubs, players and volunteers throughout the Riverina."

The role of Patron serves as a symbolic and practical connection between the Association and the broader community, with Patrons acting as ambassadors for the game and advocates for its ongoing growth.

Cricket Wagga Wagga said the appointment reflects the importance of strong community partnerships in ensuring cricket continues to thrive across the region, from junior participation through to senior and representative pathways.

The Association congratulates both Michael McCormack and Dr Joe McGirr on their election and thanks them for their continued support of cricket in Wagga Wagga and the wider Riverina.
